AKRON -- The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad has introduced a new extended train schedule for visitors. CVSR will offer scenic train rides every Tuesday through Sunday from stations in Independence to Akron.
On Tuesdays to Thursdays, the train runs from 9 a.m. to 4:25 p.m. On Fridays to Sundays, it runs from 9 a.m. to 8:15 p.m.
The national park scenic coach ticket allows passengers to board and get off the train and visit attractions at Rockide station, Peninsula station and Akron Northside station. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children. In addition, CVSR will offer several interactive programs on the train each week:
Every Tuesday departing from Peninsula station at 9:50 a.m., passengers can purchase tickets for the summer speaker series and hear from national park rangers and experts from local organizations on a variety of topics from biodiversity to the making of Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Tickets are $10 per person.
Every Thursday, families can participate in the read aboard program, an interactive experience that includes storytime, crafts and activities, snacks and a scavenger hunt. This program is recommended for children ages 3 to 7 and their caregivers. Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for children (ages 3- 12).
The Hale Farm explorer pass will be offered on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. This ticket enables passengers to travel to the outdoor living history museum, Hale Farm & Village and experience daily mid-19th century life depicted through dozens of historic structures, farm animals, heritage gardens, cooking presentations and demonstrations of early American craft and trades. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children (ages 3-12).
CVSR will continue offering weekly dining programs. Breakfast and lunch will be offered on Saturdays and Sundays. For breakfast, departures are at 9 a.m. out of Rockside station. Lunch excursions depart at 12:50 p.m. out of Rockside station.
Passengers also can enjoy an evening four-course dinner excursion every Friday, departing Peninsula Depot at 5:40 p.m. Visit cvsr.com for tickets and information.
